Fishing Gear Storage Shed at Crabbes River, St. David's
In the late 1800's, this building was constructed by Elijah Alley to house his team of oxen. In later years, he used it to house a cow, horse and a few sheep.
It was located at the bottom of the church hill on a piece of land next to Richard Gillam. In the early fifties, his son, Allison Alley had Joe McInnis of the Highlands haul the building down to Crabbes River beach to be used as a shed to repair fishing gear and build boats.
After Allison's death, the store was purchased by Rodney Hulan from Allison's brother, Edward Alley to be used for the same purpose - fishing gear repairs. Rodney Hulan sold it to the Harbour Authority of Bay St. George South on May 30, 2006.
The harbour Authority has used the building to store building supplies for projects at Crabbes River, including two marginal wharves, a boat launch ramp, and two floating docks.
The Harbour Authority rents the building to fish buyers each season.
